Svelte creator: Web development needs to be extra enjoyable

Rich Harris, the creator of the Svelte JavaScript framework, has indeed expressed the opinion that web development should be more enjoyable. Harris believes that current web development technologies, such as React and Vue, have become too complex and time-consuming, leading to frustration and burnout among developers.

According to Harris, Svelte was designed to be a simpler and more intuitive alternative to these frameworks, with a focus on improving the developer experience. Svelte approach to building web applications involves writing code that is compiled at build time, rather than at runtime, which can lead to faster and more efficient code.

In an interview with The New Stack in 2020, Harris stated, “Web development has become this really exhausting, really frustrating experience, and I think we need to find ways to make it fun again. That’s what I’ve been trying to do with Svelte, is to make it feel more like you’re doing creative work, rather than fighting with tools all the time.”

Harris’s perspective reflects a growing sentiment in the web development community that the focus should be on creating technologies that are enjoyable to use and promote creativity, rather than simply adding more features and complexity.
